Research Abstract |
The fall prevention study was conducted with the cooperation of the University of Hamamatsu School of Medicine Hospital and patients. 1.The development of the fall risk assessment tool : All the factors of fall risk measurement were compared in terms of fall frequency, and a checklist for risk assessment was developed with nine items : "Fall history", "Gait disorder", "Use of walking assistance tool", "Symptoms", "Psychotic manifestation", "Impaired orientation", "Wandering", "Excretion trouble", and "Internal medicine" 2.Fall reports over a one-year period were analyzed, and using the assessment tool, how falls could be prevented by working on nursing care was verified. Research Method : The 519 fall reports submitted from April 2004 to March 2005 were analyzed. There were 99 cases of falling among the patients who obtained a total of 3 points (high risk), as assessed by the tool. The next highest frequency, 97 cases, was among those with 4 points (high risk). However, even among patients with 0 points (no risk), there were as many as 47 cases. Compared with the previous year, the number of multiple fall cases decreased. 3.The fall prevention care standard : A prevention care standard was developed from the items of the fall risk assessment tool, and both were used in each ward of the hospital. 4.Development of comprehensive fall prevention IT (information technology) system which will be able to being combined hospital new work system was established and we will be able to start to operate it next year.
