変異理論を用いた方言接触と言語消滅の研究-旧南洋群島パラオ島の日本語

Research Abstract

3ヵ年計画の初年度の研究として、本年度の前半はこれまでの調査で得られたfluent speakerの会話データを分析し、パラオ共和国で使用され続けている日本語の特徴に、方言接触、新方言形成等の側面から社会言語学的な考察を加えた。途中段階であるものの、これらの研究成果を「Contact and obsolescence in a diaspora variety of Japanese」として公表し、また「2^<nd> Essex International Workshop on Language Variation and Change」において報告した。本年度公刊された「Investing the sociolinguistic gender paradox in a multilingual community」および「Language choice and cultural hegemony in the Western Pacific」と併せ、関係専門家によるフィードバックを参考にしつつ、さらに研究を深めている。
一方、本年度後半は主として同国におけるsemi-speakerに焦点をあて、言語消滅のプロセスおよび要因分析に力点を置き、研究を展開した。先行研究では、とりわけsemi-speakerの言語使用が言語消滅過程を明らかにする上で重要視されているからである。このため、1月にはD.ブリテン博士をはじめ、英国における関係専門家より本研究の今後の調査・分析方法、さらに変異理論の応用等に関する貴重な助言を受け、2月・3月のパラオでの現地調査では、30名近いsemi-speakerからのべ35時間におよぶ会話データをMDレコーダーおよびビデオを用いて収集し、目下その会話データの分析に着手しつつある。なお、その内容は来る7月のInternational Conference on Oceanic Linguisticsにおいて報告する予定である。
