Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
An adaptive thermal comfort study in typical office buildings in three climatic zones (Warm and Humid, Cool and humid and cold and cloudy) of North-East India considering normal building stock incorporating naturally ventilated, air conditioned and mixed mode (having optional AC units) office buildings. The aim will be to cover about 10 office buildings in each climatic zone through longitudinal and transverse surveys. It is now well recognized that naturally ventilated buildings under mixed mode of operation (Optional AC units) presents huge energy saving potential. The objective of the field study will be to generate a statistically significant data base to carry out the analysis to propose adaptive thermal comfort model. Aim of research is to conduct minimum 2000 comfort surveys at three selected locations (Tezpur in warm and humid climate, Imphal in cool and humid climate and Shillong in cold and cloudy climate). This will generate enough data sets to carry out statistically significant analysis.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Data collection through thermal comfort surveys started in July 2016 and still going on with the help of local assistants. It will be complete in June 2017. So far Autumn and Winter data collection is complete (about 1500 thermal comfort surveys done so far). Analysis of autumn data is complete. Based on autumn season data analysis we are working to submit research papers to International conferences (SHASE conference, Japan) and Journal (Building and Environment, Elsevier). One extended abstract is already submitted to International conference: “Healthy Buildings, Asia, Taiwan” and review comments is awaited. As more data will come, analysis will be done and research papers will be submitted to reputed international journals. So far I have 6 Journal papers (1 Journal papers as first author and remaining 5 as one of the co-authors), and 6 conference papers published (3 as first author and other 3 as one of the co-authors).

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Now two season data collection is left. Spring season is 50% done and summer season has yet to be done. The comfort survey based data collection will end in June 2017. I also have to travel to India to bring the Instruments back to Japan and to carry out final round of questionnaires based surveys. I will travel in May-June 2017. After that analysis of the collected data will be carried out and results will be presented in the form of peer reviewed journal papers and peer reviewed conference papers.
