Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This project focuses on advanced electrocatalysts for electrochemical energy conversion. We developed a novel and versatile strategy to in-situ synthesize three-dimensional (3D) inorganic-carbon hybrids by electrochemically tuning the nanostructures and redox states of polyaniline (PANI). The different redox states of PANI provide various electronic structures, which make it possible to control the interaction between polymer and metal complexes. Special shapes were generally well preserved after carbonization, which provides effective approaches for highly controlled preparation of carbon hybrid materials with the desired morphology.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This synthesis strategy can be extended to prepare other advanced hybrid catalysts on various electrodes for energy related electrochemical devices such as fuel cells and lithium batteries. We will prepare various functional electrodes.
