Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research tried to analayze: 1) how the organizations of Japanese higher education institutions are characterized from international perspectives, 2)how the organizational structure is associated with social and economic contexts,
and 3) what are the necessary conditions for transforming the organizational structures and the professoriate. For that purpose, the teacm undertook case studies of national and private universities, analyses of institutional characteristics based on a database, and international comparisons.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

いわゆる大学改革にむけて、大学のガバナンスなどについての制度改革が行われてきた。他方で大学教育についても改善の必要が言われている。しかしその両者がどのように交錯するのかについては具体的な議論は不十分であった。本研究はその両者を結び付けるものとしての大学の「組織」の構造と機能について、国際比較、事例調査などに基づいて分析を行い、日本的な特質と、その背景を検討することによって、改革の可能性、課題への論点を明らかにした。
