Outline of Annual Research Achievements

最高エネルギー宇宙線の起源の探索を目的としたテレスコープアレイ(TA)宇宙線観測装置が2008年より米国ユタ州で稼働している。TAが発見した最高エネルギー宇宙線の発生源の兆候を解明するために、2015年度より本特別推進研究科学研究費の助成を得て拡張テレスコープアレイ(TAx4)の地表粒子検出器(SD)の建設を開始した。TAx4 SDアレイの領域の上空を見渡す大気蛍光望遠鏡(FD)2か所の建設は米国ユタ大学が行った。
前年度(2019年2月と3月)に6か所の通信塔を建設し、ヘリコプターを用いて(最終目標の500台のうち)257台のSDの設置および調整を行った。これによりTA SDアレイを合計で2.5倍に拡張した。2020年度には6月、8-9月、11月などに通信、データ収集、給電に不具合があるSDの調整・修理および通信塔におけるデータ収集の改善作業を行った。
定期的に取得する各SDの較正・モニターデータにある、シングルミューオンがシンチレータを通過した際の信号量を用いて較正を行い、宇宙線空気シャワートリガーで得られたSDの粒子数および時間の情報から、preliminaryな宇宙線のエネルギー分布および到来方向分布を求めて、精査中である。取得データの性能を確認し、宇宙線のエネルギーを求めるために、最近の空気シャワー生成プログラムとSDの検出器応答を取り入れたモンテカルロシミュレーションプログラムを構築し、シミュレーション事象を生成中である。
北側のFDは2018年2月に観測を開始し、安定な観測を継続している。南側のFDは2019年10月に観測を開始した。FDで取得した空気シャワー事象はSDで求めたエネルギーの較正および質量組成の同定に重要である。SDとFDの同時観測事象に対してSDとFDのエネルギーの比較を行って、SDエネルギーの較正を行う。
TAx4の進捗状況は、2019年7月に米国ウィスコンシン州で開催された宇宙線国際会議(ICRC2019)、その他の国際会議および日本物理学会(2019年9月、2020年3月)などで発表した。
