Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は、スピン軌道相互作用を利用してスピントロニクスに軌道という新たな自由度を加えることで、「スピンオービトロニクス」という新しい学理を構築し、革新的デバイスイノベーションへ展開することである。具体的には、以下の研究項目を実施する。
(1)スピン軌道相互作用を利用した物質探索
(2)スピン軌道相互作用を利用した新規スピン操作手法の研究
今年度の主な成果は以下のようである。
(1)“Spin-orbit-torque Memory Operation of Synthetic Antiferromagnets”, Phys.
Rev. Lett. 121, 167202 (2018).
本論文は上記研究項目(2)に関するものであり、反強磁性体磁化のスピントルクによる電気的操作、および、その方向の電気的検出に成功した。これは反強磁性体磁気メモリの動作実証に成功したことを意味する。
(2)“Vanishing skyrmion Hall effect at the angular momentum compensation temperature of a ferrimagnet”, Nature Nanotechnologyl4, 232 (2019).
本論文は上記研究項目(2)に関するものである。スキルミオンと呼ばれる特殊なナノスピン構造は、電流で駆動できるために磁気デバイスへの応用が期待されているが、スキルミオンが移動方向から逸れてしまうスキルミオンホール効果が応用上問題であると指摘されていた。本研究では、フェリ磁性体の角運動量がゼロとなる温度でスキルミオンホール効果が消失することを理論的・実験的に示したものである。
(3)“Low Magnetic Damping of Ferrimagnetic GdFeCo Alloys”, Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 127203(2019).
本論文は上記研究項目(1)に関する研究の中で見出された現象に関するものである。従来、角運動量がゼロとなる角運動量補償温度では、フェリ磁性体のエネルギー散逸が無限大になるとされていた。本研究の結果、フェリ磁性体中でのエネルギー散逸の大きさは、角運動量補償温度とは関係なく一定であり、これまで磁気デバイスに利用されてきた鉄やコバルトなどの強磁性体と同程度であることが明らかとなった。

Reason

当初計画が順調に進捗している上に、当初計画を遂行する中で、フェリ磁性体の角運動量がゼロとなる温度でスキルミオンホール効果が消失することや、これまでの定説と異なりフェリ磁性体中でのエネルギー散逸の大きさは角運動量補償温度とは関係なく一定であることなど、予想外の成果が得られている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

当初計画の研究を推進するとともに、新たに見出したフェリ磁性体における興味深いスピンダイナミクスに関しても精力的に研究を行い、新規応用の可能性を探索する。
