Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、バルクナノメタルが示す種々の特異な力学現象、すなわち、(1)金属・合金の種類によらず普遍的に現れる降伏点降下現象。(2) Hall-Petch関係におけるextra-hardening、(3)加工軟化と焼鈍硬化、(4)室温におけるひずみ速度依存変形、(5)巨大なバウシンガー効果、(6)六方晶における不活性すべり系の活性化、 (7)変形双晶および変形誘起マルテンサイト変態の安定性の顕著な変化、などを統一的に理解することを目的とする。得られる実験的成果をもとに、高い強度と大きな延性・靭性を具備する次世代構造材料としてのバルクナノメタル創製のための材料設計原理を基礎的に明らかにする。
平成29年度には、京都大学、J-PARC、SPring-8の各機関に導入した幾つかの主要設備を活用し、3機関が連携して課題の遂行を行なった。質の高い様々なバルクナノメタル試料を用いて、中性子または放射光を用いた引張試験その場回折実験やデジタル画像相関法(DIC)などを駆使した実験により、多数の優れた研究成果を得ることができた。当初予定していた7種類の特異力学現象のうち4件(特異現象(1), (2), (3), (4))のメカニズムがほぼ判明し、かつそれらが本質的にはつながっていることが明らかとなった。他の3件(特異現象(5), (6), (7))についても系統的に発現条件が調べられ、メカニズムの解明に近づいている。さらに、バルクナノメタルの特徴的な変形挙動が合金元素の影響を強く受けることや、鋼の水素脆性が結晶粒超微細化により抑制できることが新たに見出され、巨大ひずみを必要としない簡便なバルクナノメタル作製手法も開発されている。これらの結果に基づき、強度と延性を両立したバルクナノメタル材料が複数実現されている。

Reason

計画した実験を順調に実施し、質の高いデータを獲得することができた。当初予定していた7種類の特異力学現象のうち4件のメカニズムがほぼ判明し、かつそれらが本質的にはつながっていることが明らかとなった。バルクナノメタルが示す複数の新しい力学現象も見出されている。得られた成果は、現在までにネイチャー・Scientific Reports誌に掲載された4件を含む66件の学術雑誌論文、2件の著書、40件の招待講演、64件の国際会議発表、65件の国内学会発表として公表されているほか、研究代表者・分担者、ポスドクおよび関連の大学院生が8件の賞を受賞している。研究室の多くの学生と若手ポスドク研究員がバルクナノメタルに関する研究を行い、6名が博士(工学)の学位を、9名が修士学位を、7名が学士学位を取得するなど、先端的な研究を通じて若手人材育成にも貢献できた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究は当初の計画通り順調に進捗しているだけでなく、精力的な研究の過程で複数の興味深い知見も見出されており、今後の本研究の進展は、学術的にも、そして強度と延性を兼ね備えたバルクナノメタルの実用化のためにも、有益であると考えられる。したがって、本研究の研究体制や計画を大きく変更する必要はなく、引き続き着実かつ精力的にバルクナノメタル研究を進めていく予定である。
平成30年度には、まず残る3つの特異現象、(5) 巨大なバウシンガー効果、(6) 六方晶における不活性すべり系の活性化、(7) 変形双晶および変形誘起マルテンサイト変態の安定性の顕著な変化、の発現原理の解明を行う。これらに関する実験は順調に進行しており、その本質に迫りつつある。(5) については、内部応力が鍵であることが判明しており、J-PARCおよびSPring-8におけるその場中性子/放射光回折を利用した引張変形中のその場解析技術を活用することによって解明できると考えている。(6), (7)に関しては、これまで実施してきたナノインデンテーション法やDIC法による変形挙動の解析に加え、変形組織の詳細な解析、特に先端電子顕微鏡法を駆使した解析を行い、すべり系や双晶、マルテンサイトの生成サイトを明らかにすることで解明できる。さらに、新たに判明した3つの興味深い現象、(8) 特異現象に及ぼす合金元素の影響、(9) 結晶粒超微細化による水素脆性の抑制、(10) 強度と延性を両立したバルクナノメタル、に関する研究を深化させる。前述したように、これらはバルクナノメタルの実用化を考える上で大変重要な項目となる。これまで用いてきた実験手法を駆使し、その理解を深化させる。
