Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Through this project, I found that possible effects of perceived social norms among individuals on their well-being. Industrialization and globalization in East Asia have influenced the people becoming more individualistic emphasizing independence and achievements of personal goals rather than sacrificing it for the sake of in-group harmony. However, it seems that independent Asians are less happier partly because they think the socially desirable values are contrasting to their individual orientation. Also, they tend to perceive that social values related to close relationships with others have been deemphasized compared to the past in this global society.
