Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、既存技術の画面間符号化と画面内符号化技術に加え、クラウドに基づいた新たな高圧縮率動画像符号化システムを提案する。高解像度アプリケーションに対応し、更なる高圧縮率を実現した動画像符号化標準HEVCは、高い圧縮率を実現したものの、依然MC-DCTベースの符号化手法であり、これらの技術のみでは符号化効率の向上が限界に達し、これ以上の改善が見込めない。
そこで本研究は、画面間予測でも画面内予測でも予測困難な画像の特性を抽出し、その特性に特化した新たな参照用画像データベースを構築し、クラウド上の予測画像を参照することにより符号化効率を大幅に向上するアルゴリズムを新規開発し、HEVCより全体で40%以上の圧縮効率を目標とした。
本年度は、H28年度までの研究計画の遅れを取り戻すとともに、H29年度の研究計画のデータベースに適した予測データ生成法を考案した。具体的には、検証した周波数分類法・構築したデータベースを用い、データベースを効率的に検索できるための高速検索手法、検索結果より選択された複数の候補から最適な候補を選択するための確率モデルの構築等を検討した。また、構築したデータベースに適した予測データの生成法の提案と検証も行った。さらに、このデータベースを模擬クラウド上に置き、実環境での性能評価を行った。ネットワーク遅延を克服するため、データベースの一部をローカルに置くことや、ヒット率の高いデータをローカルバッファに置くことも検討した。また、実用に向けて特に符号化器のハードウェア実装を考慮した改良も検討した。
