Outline of Final Research Achievements

Ishikawa Ichiro was the president of the Chemical Industry Control Association, who cooperated with the government to control that industry for the war effort in World War II. For the purpose of making a new view of science and technology mobilization from the viewpoint of industrial circles, the Documents of Ishikawa Ichiro, available in microfilms, were systematically surveyed. The results were as follows: (1) There are not so many documents relating to science and technology mobilization as expected. (2) Since Ishikawa participated in a large number of committees and organizations for research mobilization as the representative of the chemical industry, there are a certain number of documents obtained at the meetings he attended. (3) Main activities relating to science and technology mobilization in the chemical industry were those for improvements and exchanges of technology in technical committees and conferences organized for each chemical product under the Control Association.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

第二次世界大戦中，石川一郎が化学工業統制会会長として関わった機関・団体は多数に上り，関係史料は膨大かつ多岐にわたっている。戦争に協力した機関の史料は，その多くが敗戦後焼却されたため，石川が残した史料は極めて貴重なものである。石川一郎文書は，研究者が利用しやすいマイクロフィルム版が2001年に刊行されて久しいにもかかわらず，科学技術史の研究者による利用がほとんどなかった。本研究を進める過程で作成された「石川一郎文書（科学技術動員関係史料）目録・解題」は，今後科学技術史の研究者が本史料を利用する際の一つの手掛かりになると思われる。
