Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research is an attempt to go beyond the binary confrontational diagram of“spoken language ” versus “sign language.”“Sign language linguistics,” which uses traditional linguistics as its methodology, judged that “sign language has no letters. ” However, according to the ideas of Derrida and Merleau-Ponty, sign language is not only spatial but also temporal and inter-bodies expression in “parole” as “archi-ecriture. ” The education of deaf children by adult deaf people is a prototype in which human adults guide children into the world of languages with letters. Through a phenomenological description from this viewpoint, we discuss the fact that adult deaf people are indispensable cultural environments for deaf children.
