Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research established a definition of Japanese war painting (sensoga) during the Fifteen-years War that is historically grounded upon the records of the time period and understood within a comparative framework that includes wartime painting in the United States and other Western countries. It emphasizes the importance of the dual nature of the idea of sensoga as objects and as system. The critical significance of intercultural analysis of war art in a self-reflexive manner was confirmed.
