2020年度には、本研究を展開するのに並行して創設された慶應義塾大学アメリカ学会における国際シンポジウム（ 2019年 12月）を元にした論文“Transnational American Studies: or, Trans-Atlantic, Trans-Pacific, Trans-Chronological” （Journal of Keio American Studies, Vol. 0 / 2020 / pp. 7-16）とともに、世紀転換期の環大陸的規模における文学思想史的変化を記述しようと試みた論文「作家生命論演劇篇――トウェイン『奴は死んだのか？』を中心に」（『日本マーク・トウェイン 研究と批評』第19号／2020年6月／12-20頁）を発表し、モダニズム揺籃期における欧米文学者と我が国の知識人との相互交渉の調査と分析をさらに深めた。加えて、この年は COVID-19のため予定していた海外出張が全く不可能になったものの、 ZOOMテクノロジーの恩恵により、まさにモダニズムが一方通行ではなく欧米と日本との間で双方向的な関係にあったことを徹底討議する複数のシンポジウムが複数の機関によって企画され、申請者が招聘されたことを特記したい。特に日本学術会議が主催する「言語・文学委員会 人文学の国際化と日本語文科会」や慶應義塾大学藝文学会が主催するシンポジウム「文学と歴史」、世界文学・語圏横断ネットワーク第13回研究集会のパネル「世界文学の再構築」に参加してそれぞれペーパーを読み、南北アメリカ、ヨーロッパ、アジアに及ぶ各国文学の専門家たちとの積極的な意見交換を行なったことは、本研究に文学思想史的かつ文化思想史的な厚みを加えるのに大いに寄与したものと確信する。
