Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study compares and contrasts the language used in video media in Japan and Korea. The first point is that each program's genre strongly affects pragmatic features of linguistic expression in each language. The second point is that TV program makers sometimes make deliberate and excessive pragmatic modifications in the translation process. An example of the genre influence in the first point was the utterance of reporters in sports news. Japanese reporters mixed the polite form with the plain form while Korean reporters used only the polite form. In Japan's unique genre, “Wide Show”, entertainment is emphasized over report functions. An example of deliberate corrections is related to “role language”(Yakuwarigo). Some “Yakuwarigo” has been added to the Japanese version to make it unique even if it is not used in the original Korean version. As a result, personality of the characters in the translated video media may differ from the original version.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、日韓対照の観点から両言語による映像メディアを考察分析しており、「対照言語研究」と「メディア言語研究」を融合した学際的研究であることに学術的な意義がある。また、映像メディアを考察対象とすることで、活字メディアとは異なって、映像、発話、文字、音といった複合的に絡み合っている諸要素間の「マルチモーダル」な関係と実態が明らかになると予想され、メディアリテラシーの側面からその社会的意義が認められると考える。
