Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The Consecutive Interpreting Approach is a sound-based English teaching model, the basis of which is comprised of shadowing and reproduction. The approach is intended to cultivate listening and speaking skills of Japanese English learners. What it does is to scientifically compensate for the lack of exposure to English and limited opportunities to use it, both crucial elements for foreign language acquisition. It improves Japanese students’ English verbal communication skills without the necessity to radically change the classroom environment to which Japanese students are typically exposed. The application of this approach to English classes in commercial high schools has seen a significant increase in the number of students who have passed the 1st grade Zensho English exam. It has also been successfully adopted for students taking the STEP 1st grade exam. These results clearly demonstrate a positive outcome for Japanese students who have benefited from this approach.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
