| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The principal investigator continued to refine the online system made the LiMaS (Listening Materials System) based on the performance of the system. A major addition to the system was the inclusion of the Listening Vocabulary Levels Test (LVLT) which gives a more accurate representation of the users’current listening abilities. Also, the mechanism for subjective feedback was also improved which allows open-ended comments to be collected.
He has also been reporting about the ongoing research Presentations were given at the following international conferences: ASIA TEFL, EUROCALL, and JALT International. Also, presentations/workshops were given at the Fukuoka, Shizuoka, and Toyohashi chapters of JALT.

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The research project is slightly delayed. According to the research plan, the objective level of difficulty formula was to be developed during Year 2. Because of initial delays, the project is still behind schedule. It is anticipated that the formula will be ready for the fall of Year 3.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Permission has been received to include some commercial materials in the system. The main priorities for 2017-2018 will be: 1. Increase the quantity of contents (sources, difficulty), 2. Complete a working Objective Difficulty formula, and 3. Expand the number of users. The principal investigator will be submitting proposals to international conferences to disseminate results to a larger and varied audience.

| Causes of Carryover |
For the upcoming year, the budget will be used to attend and present at international conferences. Also, the budget will be used to cover the costs associated with the operation of the online system.

| Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
The budget will be used for domain registration and webhosting. The majority of the budget will be used to attend and present at two large international conferences - TESOL 2018 (March 2018) and AAAL (March 2018). If there are remaining funds I will give a technical presentation at MoodleMoot Japan.
