Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the fiscal year 2016, focus group discussion and the questionnaire survey of high school students were conducted in the research site. The details of the major research achievements are summarized below. 1. To complement the household survey results, a focused group discussion was conducted in August 2016 at the Ramche village of Sindhupalchok district, Nepal. Selected people from different sectors and occupations, such as local government officials, school and university teachers and students, NGO workers, business men and farmers participated in the program. Their opinions about the impacts of the big earthquake 2015 and the access to infrastructure together with their expectation about the future were recorded in videos. 2. Similarly, a questionnaire survey of high school students of two high schools of Ramche village and Bahrabise village were conducted in February 2017. The main purpose of this survey is to assess the impacts of the Nepal earthquake 2015 on their school achievement. 3. A couple of papers are drafting using the data of household survey and focus group discussion. It is planned to disseminate the results in international conferences in this academic year. 4. The data entry of the students’ questionnaire survey is underway. It is also planned to complete the data analysis of this study in this fiscal year.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
1. The focus group discussion was more successful than planned before. Most of the key stakeholders of the local areas participated and openly discussed and expressed their views on the issues raised by the researcher.
2. Although it was not planned to conduct the questionnaire survey with students, the study is very useful to assess the impacts of earthquake on education of high school students. A valuable research paper is expected to emerge from this analysis.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The research agenda of this project is becoming even more crucial due to the recent massive earthquake that hit hard the hills and mountainous region of Nepal causing loss of many private and public houses and infrastructure. Disaster risk management, which is one of the issues of this research, is an urgent need yet so challenging in countries like Nepal. The research output of this project will be disseminated in this fiscal year not only at international conferences but also at the local community from where the data was collected. Research activities and the results will also be disseminated through the personal web page of the researcher. The research activities for the fiscal year 2017 are planned as follows. 1. June 2017 to January 2018: Presenting papers: a) at the Asia Pacific Trade Seminars (APTS) to be held in Foreign Trade University in Hanoi, Vietnam;b) at the Global South Caucus (GSCIS) Of The ISA, Havana Workshop in the University of Havana, Cuba; c) at the International Conference on Applied Economics and Policy (ICAEP) in the University of Malaya, Kualalumpur, Malaysia; and d) at the 30th Annual Conference of The Japanese Association for South Asian Studies (JASAS) in Tokyo. 2. March 2018: Holding a research output dissemination program in Sindhupalchok, Nepal. 3. Submitting papers to journals for publication.
