Outline of Annual Research Achievements

In final year of the project, analytical works on rock samples were conducted. The results were summarized and presented at international conferences to share our understanding with scientific community as well as with common citizens. In addition, main target of the project "water-rock interaction modeling using oxygen isotope <delta 18 O> values in magmatic and metamorphic zircons was published in high-impact factor international journal. By studying <d18O> values in the rock samples, we understood the role of water on the paleoclimate. The age of the studied zircons is Permian, hence the <delta 18O> composition of the studied zircons (Indian plate) indicated cold/glacial environment when protoliths were formed in Permian.
In addition, <d18O> lower than typical mantle values (ca. 5~7 per mil) in magmatic zircons proved that the source magma was formed from a hydrothermally altered oceanic crust and further lower and negative <d18O> values in metamorphic zircons suggest the <d18O> values were reequilibrated isotopically during subduction-related metamorphic processes. The research achievements have been presented at two international conferences 1. "Subduction-Collision Processes" at the JpGU 2017 Annual Meeting, Makuhari-Messe, Japan and 2. "Asian Orogeny and Continental Evolution" held by Academia Sinica at Taipei, Taiwan. Some of the results were also published in impact-factor international journals (shown in the publications list). Some of the field works for comparative study were conducted locally but due to shortage of fund field work abroad was not possible.
