Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Twin roll casting experiments to manufacture thick forging materials were conducted using high aluminum content Mg alloys. Hot forgeability of the obtained material was examined. As a result, the following research results were obtained. Three types of high aluminum content Mg alloys, such as Mg-11 mass%Al-0.8 mass% Zn, Mg -12 mass% Al-0.8 mass% Zn, Mg-13 mass% Al-0.8 mass% Zn, were selected in roll casting experiments. By using the tandem twin roll method, it is possible to manufacture a forging thick sheet material of 24 mm at maximum. From a result of EDSD analysis of the cast strips, the crystal grain size was 70 μm near the roll surface and 30 μm at the center part of the strip, Mg17Al12and Al3Mg2 was discontinuously precipitated at the crystal grain boundaries. A hot forging test using a servo press was performed and it was demonstrated that it is possible to manufacture a pin-shaped part (heat sink) with a height of 5 mm, at a 420 degrees centigrade.
