2019年12月に、ケンブリッジ大学のクレアホールにて、Money in West Africa: The economic and social history of the transitions from commodity to colonial currencies を開催した。その準備兼英領西アフリカの経済史についての知見を得る目的で、2019年10月にふたたびケンブリッジ大学に渡航し、共同研究者のGareth Austin教授が主催するセミナー等に参加するとともに、英領西アフリカの専門家と交流する機会を得た。
ワークショップでは、ポルトガルの経済史の専門家Maria Eugenia Mata (Universidade Nova de Lisboa),仏領西アフリカの専門家である研究代表者とSeiji Nakao (Research Institute for Humanity and Nature)、ナイジェリアの経済史の専門家2名 Yasin Abubakar (Usmanu Danfodiyo University)およびBamidele Aly (Independent researcher, Paris I )、そして英領西アフリカの専門家 Gareth Austin (University of Cambridge) , Leigh Gardner (LSE)に参加いただき、コメンテーターとして、Karin Pallaver (University of Bologna)およびToby Green (King's college London)を招いた。
西アフリカ経済および通貨圏が宗主国によっていかに分断されたのか、西アフリカの人々が欧米の貨幣をいかに受容していったのかについて、宗主国の枠を超えて議論する場や機会というのはこれまでほとんどなかった。まだ不明な点は数多く残るが、特に、内陸部の通貨取引についての議論ができたのは非常に重要である。本ワークショップの内容と意義については中尾（2020）にて論じられた。ワークショップの成果は、英文のジャーナルに投稿する方向で、現在、話がすすんでいる。
