Research Abstract |
The Peace and Community Research Institute at Rikkyo University is producing three volumes, Peace and Community, Asian Migration, and Peace Strategies in Local Communities. Each volume includes chapters that examine various issues under the umbrella theme of comprehensive security. These volumes are to be published by early 2007. Also, Igarashi Akio teamed with Miranda Scheurs to interview Japanese female political figures on the topic of women political participation and environmental issues. They plan to publish their research results in both English and Japanese. Projects conducted under this research grant also examined the influence of globalization on comprehensive security. Members considered this issue at both the theoretical and the practical level. A practical application focused on the "citizen." Namely, from local, to regional, to global, a shared set of cosmopolitan values exists at every level regarding comprehensive security. Examining the role of concerned individuals, NGOs, and other local o rganizations is thus critical to our gaining an understanding of the dynamics of comprehensive security. In this regard, the citizen's perspective occupied an important focal point of this research.
