Research Abstract |
In this project, preventive functions in nursing at hospital consists of three sub themes ; 1.at outpatient departments, 2.at wards, and 3.in discharge planning. 1.In nursing at outpatient departments, at first 19 medical and nursing experts were interviewed about how to prevent patients' offspring's diabetes mellitus (DM), and the necessity of preventive intervention was ascertained. In the next survey for 385 patients and offspring's, we found that risk perception and practice of preventive behavior for DM were higher than the inference of medical experts. Furthermore, patients' offsprings showed that they could possibly have better response to non-face to face intervention than general adults. A needs survey was performed for patients with CAPD. The Japanese Version of the European Heart Failure Self-Care Behavior Scale was developed and verified psychometric properties. 2.Concerning ward care, a survey was done for the assessment of nursing quality based on the patients' experience a

nd for adverse events, and their reliability and validity were verified. A survey about safety culture of hospitals showed that the head nurse's power influenced work empowerment, and the attitudes and behaviors towards safety. Investigation of movement of the eyeball during operations of infusion pomp suggested that checking behavior was influenced by psychological burden. From the exploration of benchmark indexes for decubitus ulcers in high care hospitals by prospective study and expert opinions, "decompression" and "constructive factors of the facilities" were elucidated. 3.In discharge planning, a "screening questionnaire" and "check sheet for necessity of home visit" were developed. After application to 170 patients, their validations were satisfactory. Participant observation was done to identify the intervention of in service palliative care teams to terminal cancer patients and families for selection and transition to appropriate places for recuperation. The contents of intervention were organized into 8 categories and 88 subcategories. Less
