From 2004 to 2006, we made investigation into historical local documents and did fieldwork in Jiang-nan Delta of China. The contents of the investigation and fieldwork contained the following three points. (1) Historical local documents We made investigation into historical local documents in county or city archives and libraries of Jiang-nan Delta. It reached 24 archives and libraries--Wu-jiang archives, Qing-pu archives, Jia-shan archives, Jia-xing archives, and so on. We were surprised to find a great deal of historical documents, which were called local archives, local paper, and folktale. These document included a lot of the administrative documents, the statistical table, the distribution maps of villages, the register of title deeds, the family registration, the reports of the investigations, the list of fishermen's association members, for example.
