Research Abstract

The research project intends to explain the actual condition of the housing revolution and its meaning' to the transaction of urban regional structure after the introduction of reform and open policy in contemporary China. The project includes four main theme; development process of housing revolution, regional difference of commercialization of urban residence in the national context,. several types of residential development and their spatial distribution in Beijing and Shanghai, and residential-supply structure including material processing.
As a result of research of these main themes, the housing revolution in contemporary urban China has been proceeding combined with land revolution searching for establishing socialist- capitalism market economy after the reform and open policy. Beijing and Shanghai politically and economically leading cities of China are prominent position in commercialization of residence in China. Housing market has several types of commercial houses such as economic and suitable housing, condominium and villa, and other rental houses. In the downtown redevelopment projects of built-up area aiming at higher economic urban activities promote to supply high-rise and middle-rise residential buildings.
