Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is threefold : (i) to establish the mathematical model from input and output data for flexible structures such as high-rise buildings subjected to such random disturbances as wind and/or earthquake-induced acceleration, (ii)) to develop the active control algorithm, and (iii) to perform the experiments using scale model of the high-rise building. The modeling of the structure was performed by introducing the subspace-based system identification method that was established by the head investigator for continuous-time stochastic linear systems. As for the control algorithm, the method of functionally assigned control (FAC) was employed which was also developed by the head investigator. The FAC method consists of two controllers one of which acts against the random vibrations due. to wind forces and the other against the earthquake-induced random forces : An experimental model of scale 1/200 was constructed and experiments of the active control were constructed

based on the mathematical model established by subspace-based identification. The whole method of modeling and control was successfully established. The research has been done as follows: (i) For Fiscal 2004 : The modeling algorithm was established using the input and output data. Established the active. control method and checked by computer simulation works. An experimental model of scale 1/200 for the 50-story building of 200 m high with floor space 40x40 m^2. (ii) For Fiscal 2005 : Constructed the subspace-based identification algorithm including the estimation of the Kalman filter gain matrix. Experiments were conducted using the scale model that was constructed in the former year. (iii) For Fiscal 2006 : The experiments were performed with computer implementation of FAC incorporating with the predictive control. The bi-axial control was realized using the x-and y-axial actuators that were equipped at the top of the model structure. The effectiveness of the control method was verified by experiments. Less
