Research Abstract |
Recently school safety has been frightened everywhere in the industrialized countries. Several big sad incidents have happened in schools. The object of this study is to examine how to organize the systematic coping against the school crisis. By taking the lessons from the precedent incidents, we have to try to prevent of the happenings of a similar incident any more. But the investigation and analysis about the incidents are limited, so we have not enough information about the way how to cope systematically with the school staffs against critical circumstances. So we visited the Ikeda Elementary School, Columbine High School and Dunblane Primary School and examined the passage of each incident and learned how to prevent the murdering and minimize the victims. Each Ministry of Education made up the policy of the school safety. The school safety management system and plans in Los Angels are instructive. We also watched the practical trainings for the protection and evacuation of children in school. We need more preparation for keeping the security in school, prompt and systematic coping against the urgent situations, and the correlation among school, community and home. Now the inclusive protection of children by the cooperation of each agency is a new trend in the world. We hope that our suggestion will be some hints of improvements for the school safety in Japan.
