Research Abstract |
We have tried to measure X-ray reflectivity of one of ionic liquids, [bmin]Bf4. As the result, a small deviation from Fresnel s law for the ideal flat surface was observed at highest angle which we could measure. To obtain the data at higher angle, higher incident beam intensity was necessary. Therefore, a parabolic multilayer X-ray optics was applied for the reflectometer as a monochromater instead of the perfect crystal monochromater. Not to move a heavy X-ray source, a new geometry in which only the parabolic multilayer rotates around the X-ray focal point, was attempted successfully. Comparing with a Ge111 monochromator, we obtained a good X-ray beam with 25 times higher intensity and lower divergence. Reflectivity data for liquid glycerin were measured for demonstration. We will try to measure the reflectivity of the ionic liquid by using the reformed reflectometer.
