Research Abstract |
An all-optical triode based on a tandem wavelength converter was realized using cross-gain modulation in two InGaAsP/InP semiconductor optical amplifiers. The reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers were utilized to improve output extinction ratio as well as logic operation output performance. The output signal power and extinction ratio from the first stage wavelength conversion were critical to the achievement of all-optical logic AND operation. The optical output power at the 1555nm wavelength could be varied from 0.1 to 3.3mW by a control beam which had the same wavelength. The output-input gain parameter can be changed from 0 to 1.6 when the average control power is altered from 0 to 48μW. An optical memory with store/forward functions was demonstrated using the optical triode and a feedback system of the fiber.
