Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to construct the environment to which a hearing-impaired person can undergo a medical examination without restriction under the idea of the normalization. When a hearing-impaired person undergoes a medical examination, a psychological barrier is generated because communications are difficult. To reduce the barrier, Showa University and Hitachi Ltd. jointly developed the computer-aided information presentation system in stomach X-ray examination for hearing-impaired persons. This system offers integrated information by displaying sign language, the character, and the gesture in the monitor. Examination of input method of applying voice recognition technology to decrease load of operation side, examination of monitor installation place it is safe and without blind spot, and video contents where it explains examination procedure beforehand by sign language and character, were made in 2004. In 2005, the evaluation and the improvement by hearing impaired people were done by using the improved system. After informed consent had been done enough, stomach X-ray examinations were carried out. Although a hearing-impaired person's examination time (10-15 min/person) and fluoroscopy time became long as compared with hearing-normal person, a difference was not seen at the number of times of a radiographer entrance into a room. When the version that deleted the sign language animation and enlarged the character was prepared, and the character became legible, it was popular among hearing-impaired person to which sign language was not able to be understood too much well.
