Research Abstract |
The purpose of the experimental study is to investigate the effect on intrasac pressure of stent graft placement within a rubber model of an abdominal aortic aneurysm maintained under physiological conditions of pressure and flow. With no endoleak, clotting stent graft reduced the pulse sac pressures slightly. When a type II endoleak was present, as perfusion rates increased, both mean and pulse sac pressures decreased. These in vitro studies provide a basic understanding of the effects on intrasac pressure after stent graft repair of aortic aneurysm. Forty-three patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm were treated with stent graft (SG). The Spiral Z-stent graft (SZ-SG) was placed in 14 patients and the Zenith stent graft (ZE-SG) was used in 29 patients. In these patients, changes in aneurysm diameter as well as the relationship between endoleaks and reduced aneurysm diameters were investigated for both types of SG. The results revealed differences between the two types of SG. Endoleak was less and aneurysm diameter reduced greater with ZE-SG than SZ-SG.
