Research Abstract |
As the location and branching of pulmonary arteries and veins distal to the cardiac sac exhibit great individual differences, data related to these vessels are useful to thoracic surgeons. Methods : We developed freeware with which bronchi and pulmonary arteries and veins can be marked on images from CT (computer tomogram) that have been uploaded to a personal computer. We then established a system by which 3-dimensional (3D) images can be reconstructed and surgery can be simulated using freeware for 3D image analysis. Results : Using a freeware program for 3D image analysis, distributions and branching patterns of bronchus, pulmonary arteries and veins in the hilar region of each patient were ascertained to reconstruct a 3D image, enabling virtual reshaping and cutting of reconstructed bronchi and pulmonary arteries and veins.
