Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research discusses the issue of classification of change factors and the issue of generalization of change process in the formation of new classifiers in modern Japanese. Four words "-Keisu (Case)", "-Pataan (Pattern)", "-Taipu (Type)" and "-Rosen (Route)" were taken up. The results are as follows. The change factors can be categorized on the basis of whether the meaning of a noun changing into a classifier is general or specific. Changes occur as a result of extension of the syntactic distribution which is caused by the analogy between quantifier sentence structures. Also, the change follows a set path.
