Outline of Final Research Achievements

WeI clarified two points.
1. The imperial court and Mitsui,one of the Biggest merchants in the early modern japan,had many relationships. Not only in their business, but aloso their corporate governance.
2. Takatsukasa Masamichi, a great politician of the imperial court just before the Meiji Restoration, have lent his money to others members of the court through Chazomeya, a marchant in Kyoto. It strengthened his power.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

近世のはじめに江戸幕府によって都市の富から切り離され、農村のみを領地とした朝廷が、近世の中後期においては、近世都市に蓄積された豪商の資本や金融ネットワークからも利潤を得るようになっていたこと、またその対価を都市の住人側も大いに利用していたことを、多様に具体的に明らかにした。
近世の朝廷も、経済・社会のなかに分かちがたく組み込まれていた。相互に影響を与えながら変化していった過程を今後追求し、幕末に向かう変容を考えてゆく大きな手掛かりが得られたといえる。
