Outline of Final Research Achievements

The mechanisms of leukemogenesis for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with chromosomal translocation of t(8;21) is still obscure. We are now elucidating the mechanisms of this AML type by searching target genes and interacting proteins.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

急性骨髄性白血病(AML)の中で最も多い染色体転座t(8;21)によって引き起こされるAMLの原因を探求した。これにより新規のメカニズムを明らかにした。さらに詳しい解析により、t(8;21)AMLにとどまらず、他のAMLにも重要な遺伝子を特定しつつある。このことにより、この遺伝子産物を阻害することが、新たな白血病の治療の開発につながると考えられる。
