Research Abstract |
Recently, flat panel display (FPD), such as liquid crystal display (LCD), plasma display (PDP), and organic EL, has been widespread. FPD is requested to develop better quality on screen resolution, lightness contrast, luminosity, and so on^<(1)> Im proving functions of the anti-reflection has especially been focused today. It is also hoped to manufacture anti-reflection sheets for blocking lighting and sun light reflections with a low price^<[1]>. There are 2 types of anti-reflection sheets today; antireflection coating (AR) and non-glare (NG). AR may deny the reflected light by using the light interference, so that the reflected light is hardly scattered and a clear image can be obtained^<[2]>. However, AR is costly because of its multi layer coating for highquality antireflection. NG scatters reflected lights by minute ruggedness shape on the surface. Although NG is inferior to AR in the anti-reflection performance, NG cost is about 1/3 of AR with the metal mold. Therefore, NG is exp

ected to develop higher quality. The anti-reflection sheets are requested to scatter lights from the external world and to penetrate lights from the backlight in high efficiency. To obtain above expectations, dimples of 10-30μm in diameter and 0.1-0.3μm in depth are formed on the glass substrate like an array for lower rate of clear reflective image and higher rate of clear penetrative image. Metal molds of NG anti-reflection sheets are usually manufactured by sandblast. This method has a problem; the quality depends on the capability of craftsmen, so that it is difficult to finish sandblasting with even precision. There is also low reproducibility and stability of obtaining the best shape for anti-reflection because of randomness of its processing. Recently, it seems that a number of high-quality molds will decrease because many skillful engineers have been retiring. Thus, this study proposed a new laser processing method to make minute shapes with better stability. Moreover, after NG anti-reflection shape is made by this method, an optical characteristic was evaluated. Less
