Research Abstract |
In the Second Science and Technology Basic Plan formulated by the Council for Science and Technology Policy in Japan, "A safe, secure nation where people enjoy a high quality of life" was one of the three forms of the vision of what Japan aims to become, and this is followed in the third Basic Plan started from 2006. There exist some laws to stipulate physical "safety" from the viewpoints of disaster prevention and barrier-free, however, there exist no legal regulations to realize emotional "feeling of safe." Therefore, we began our research not conceptually but experimentally to clarify the conditions in residential spaces that must be satisfied to make all people, including the elderly, children, physically impaired, and women, feel comfortable and safe. The subjects were restricted to the elderly for the first year, Heisei 17, and women for the second year. The subjective spaces were restricted to public spaces. The researches are accomplished as follows : 1.Surveillance from the view

point of "secured feeling for the elderly" 2.Construction of stairs with various kinds of attributes as the contents for immersive simulator for living spaces using virtual reality 3.Construction of the system to measure and collect biological signal 4.Experiments for assessment of "degree of secured feeling" when looking down the stairs employing the elderly as subjects 5.Induction of the conditions of the safe stairs for the elderly 6.Surveillance of the problems of the public space comparing the differences between men and women from the viewpoint of "secured feeling for women" 7.Construction of closed spaces with window with various kinds of width, height and views as the contents for immersive simulator for living spaces using virtual reality 8.Experiments for assessment of secured, comfort and others in 7-point-Likert scale employing male and female students as subjects 9.Induction of the differences between men and women for dark-isles-view and the differences between the results of questionnaire and the results of biophysical signals for women Less
