Research Abstract

In this research I examine the epistemology and ethics of Plato's Theaetetus. In this year, I consider particularly what role perception plays in the argument against the proposal that knowledge(episteme) is defined as perception(aisthesis) (184-186). Existing interpretations about this argument fall into two groups, namely, (1) consideration is identical with or involved in perception(e.g.CooperModrak), and the(2) consideration is different from perception, though perception may be used in the consideration(e.g.Burnyeat,Kanayama). I think, however, interpretation(1) has no foundation in texts and interpretation(2) proposes correction of texts, which is unnecessary for it. The results of this research are published in my article "Perception and Consideration in the Theaetetus(184-186)".
