Research Abstract |
This research looked at transculturalism, which was born against a background of uniqueness in Montreal in the so called “cultural triangle", and seeks a different way for various ethnic groups to coexist from the multiculturalism of English Speaking Canada. It also considered that trend which searches for a new cosmopolitanism through the emergence in the 1980 s of a Quebec literature, “migrant literature", which runs alongside a phase of pluralism in Quebec society. Regarding the expansion of transculturalism, it supposed that the resonance of the sense of being in a minority from the time of Quebec's colonial history was a major factor. “Migrant literature", is the lively creative work in French since the 1980s which originated with migrant authors, but an analysis of the work of writers such as the Italian M. Micone, the Jewish N. Kattan, the Haitian E. Ollivier, Chinese Y. Chen and the Japanese A. Shimazaki shows that a representation of transculturalism also appears there. In analysing the various disputes which revolve around a pluralist society in Quebec, I also carefully analysed the background and the factors which stimulated the rise of transculturalism. Resulting from this research has been the publication of my book, “Transculturalism and Migrant Literature"(Sairyusha,2006), and my doctoral thesis at Osaka Municipal University, “Migration and Literature in Pluralist Society Quebec: the Origin and Rise of Transculturalism and Migrant Literature"(2008). As we enter the 21^<st> century, Quebec finds itself at a crossroad. As a result of the broad infiltration of transculturalism, signs of a new cosmopolitanism represented by transmigration and a new generation of literature have become clear. One result of this research is that in July 2008 I presented at the International federation of French Professors international symposium in Quebec City.
