Research Abstract |
I made research on loan-words from Japanese language by investigating Social Studies Textbooks used at Indonesian Elementary Schools, History Textbooks used at Indonesian Junior High Schools, and main dictionaries of Indonesian language from the year 2005 to 2007. During this period I went to many places in Indonesia to collect various materials for the research. Also I visited The University of Indonesia, National Language Centre in Jakarta, Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Padjadjaran University in Bandung, and Udayana University in Denpasar. There I met many researchers and exchanged ideas about Indonesian studies, education, vocabularies research on loan-words including Japanese. Often I could get valuable materials from them. After coming back to Japan I started studying and making analysis of the materials. After that, I presented the results at the Seminar of Institute on Indonesian Language and Culture in Japan. The results of my research were published in Journal of Indonesia-Language and Culture, volume 12, 13 and 14. From the results of this research I can conclude that Japanese words have entered into Indonesian language while the two countries had a close historical relationship (especially during Japanese military occupation of The World War II) and also because after the war Japanese words spread around the world as Japanese culture gradually had influence in many countries. The results of this research can also provide a new point of view in the study of Japanese language. There is also great possibility that the results of this research will contribute to the study of Indonesian vocabulary not only inside Japan, but also to the world.
