Research Abstract |
1. Following-up of Prefectural and National Grant Exchange Students and Establishment of the Database of International Exchange Information Before the project started, Ryuji Ishikawa, the project leader, had continuously discussed about the establishment of integral information networking with the office of International Exchange of Okinawa Prefecture and The Okinawa International Exchange and Human Resources Development Foundation. Although the personal information policy had prevented its establishment, this research project promoted the starting of preliminary discussion about the networking by the delegates from the field of education and business in Okinawa. Based on the basic plan designed by the Foundation, the networking was implemented in 2008 and is under continuous development. 2. Investigation of Actual Conditions of International Students The investigations of international students carried out by the researchers of the project were examined with the results of written questionnaires about studying abroad answered by the students of the University of the Ryukyus. Our examination makes out a case for how we should organize our curriculum modules to attain more effective application of studying abroad. 3. Examination of the New Curriculum for the English Majors of the University of the Ryukyus In 2004, a new curriculum module was applied to the English majors from Department of Education and International Languages and Cultures of the University of the Ryukyus. The Spanish majors were also involved in the renovation because they adopt a collaborative curriculum with English majors. Common English efficiency tests were carried out on the students of both the new curriculum and the former one. The collected data were examined with the current conditions of the English curriculum for the general education and the effectiveness of the new curriculum is elucidated.
