| Research Abstract |
1. Preparation for Publication of Discographies
Nippon Columbia's overseas recordings were recorded and distributed in Taiwan, Korea, Shanghai, Manchuria by its agents. In this research project, we collected and input the data of those recordings based on master disks owned by National Museum of Ethnology, data provided by the company and researchers in those areas, and lyric sheets. We published a discography of Taiwan recordings, and others will be published soon.
2. Investigation of Master Disks Owned by National Museum of Ethnology
We investigated 6,800 disks owned by National Museum of Ethnology, documenting all the notes added onto disks and jackets, and taking photos of them. Each of the disks and the jackets has several kinds of notes including matrix number, catalogue number, other unknown numbers, several dates (they could be dates of mastering and/or pressing). Those notes might contribute to identification of the content of the disk, and to trace the history of recording, pressing, re-pressing and so on. We will compile database of the master disks with those notes in near future.
3. International Seminars
We organized two international seminars inviting scholars from Taiwan, Korea, and China in order to exchange information on the collections of recordings and the trends of research in each area, and to build a network of scholars as research infrastructure.
