| Research Abstract |
Formerly in Japan, hansen's disease patients were housed in national sanatoriums and isolated absolutely. This research is a consideration about stigma and loss of former Hansen's disease patients. I mainly examined youth from a child. The document which I used is following (1) - (3). (1) The life story of eight woman of national sanatorium (a former patient). The age as of 2008 is 72-90 years old, and the period in sanatorium is 59-69 years. (2) "longing for spring" (1950, Ozaki Bookstore). It is Composition collection written by Kumi Matuyama between 16-18 years old. At 1938 KUNI entered to sanatorium in 12 years old and died of 18 years old. (3) "19 years old" (1956: "from the deep depths", SinHyoronsha). It is Composition written by Junnko Hata at 19years old. At 1947 Junnko entered to sanatorium in 13 years old. Her symptom faded away by Promin treatment and she went away from there. It looked for the person who knew Kuni or Jyunnko at the time of writing. From the person I heard talk about Kuni or Jyunnko. The tolk is important part to consider the composition.
As a result, I can point out the following point. When they entered there in the child age, they thought "If I get over sickness, you can return.", and there is no loss so much at the time. However, stigmata are incised gradually by a lifestyle in the sanatorium and the rule and staffs attitudes .By the time to move to an adult dormitory from a child dormitory, they noticed there stigmata and Loss of their life. they experienced "Important loss" many times. When it damaged one's important aim or relationship in one's life, it became a critical experience. The individual had different "Important loss". And we cannot generalize "Important loss" to every one lightly
