Research Abstract

In this rematch, freeze-concentration of aqueous solution with using ice-stalagmite is examined The S stalagmite is formed on a bottom of a cold room when a water droplet falls in. High concentration of aqueous solution is obtained with only a time of freezing by this method Four research tasks are schemed and the following results are obtained:
1. Ice formation phenomena of water droplet: Ice formation phenomena of water droplet Men in a cold room were observed to examine the ice shape pattern of ice-stalagmite. It was found that four patterns of ice shape were observed due to experimental conditions, which were column, spiral, cone and cave-in shapes.
2. Ice formation phenomena of aqueous-solution droplet; Ice formation phenomena of aqueous solution (ethylene glycol water solution) were observed to examine the ice formation characteristics. The observed ice-shape type were the almost same as these observed by water droplet It was also found that a piece of ice should be boated on the freezing region to avoid super000lin g of the droplet.
3. Freeze-concentration phenomena with ice-stalagmite formation: It was found that aqueous solution was concentrated with ice formation and the concentrated liquid collected around the base of the ice-stalagmite. The freezing temperature of the concentrated liquid has same value as the cold room temperature, which means high concentration can be obtained with only one time operation of freezing by this ice-stalagmite method On the other hand, it was found that the concentration of the ice-stalagmite becomes thinner which means purification of water is possible by this method.
4. Empirical equation fm. freeze-concentration: The experimental data were arranged in consideration of the analytical model of the freeze-concentration phenomena. Consequently, the concentration characteristics with using ice-stalagmite were clarified and the possibility of application of the present method was shown.
