Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The recent discovery of the large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the non-collinear Kagome antiferromagnets Mn3X has highlighted the compounds and alloys based on the combination of Mn and X. As the spin Hall effect (SHE), and AHE share the same origin, the injection of pure spin current into the alloys based on Mn and X could potentially engender large SHE. In the present work, we report that doping Mn with 18% Sn strikingly increases the spin Hall angle of the amorphous Mn-Sn alloy by as large as 20 times while the resistivity is reduced by 10 times compared with pure Mn. Our study not only serves as essential reference for pure spin current phenomena in Mn-based alloys but may also offer a promising method for exploring future energy saving spin Hall materials. Besides the amorphous films, we have also succeeded in making crystallized Mn3Sn thin films on various substrates which are beneficial for spintronics study. The summarization of parts of the research will be submitted to peer reviewed journal soon.
