Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The results of this research project are summarized as follows: First, the creation of the so-called "late canon" in the Ancient Egyptian art during the mid-7th Century BCE, is to be explained as the result of adapting the traditional grid system to the anthropometric cubit system.Along with the new human proportion, other non-anthropomorphic figures such as shrines, capitals, lions, sphinxes also became subject to canonization. Second, the comparative analysis of the Egyptian and the Graeco-Roman design theories revealed that the Egyptian proportional method are essentially equivalent to the Graeco-Roman "Symmetria", which had been considered as pure Classical Greek invention. This finding indicates that the roots of the anthropometric proportional method are much deeper than the previous researchers have assumed.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
