Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to reveal mourning behaviours of older people with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD)in order to devise a grief care for people with dementia. A 60-minute interviews with each of the family caregivers and professionals were conducted separately, with the help of an interview guide.I applied qualitative content analysis. Family caregivers supported AD patients with【Repetitive explanation about spouse's death】【Participating a memorial service and visiting spouse's garave】. Professionals did 【Pharmacotherapy】【Supporting family caregivers with listening to their talk】. Both family caregivers and professionals did 【Confirming AD patient's cognition for appropriate support】.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
現状では遺族となった認知症高齢者を支援するプログラムや教育方法が確立されておらず、介護の現場では手探りで認知症高齢者の支援を行っている。こうした現状を改善するために、認知症高齢者の喪の過程を明らかにし、その支援方法を開発することで認知症高齢者の精神面の安定につながり、医療費の削減や住み慣れた場所での生活継続が可能となる。また、介護家族の負担の軽減、施設における認知症ケアの質向上につながる。
