Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The biogeographic analysis of the genus Galaxea was completed using phylogenomic methods with RAD data. The genus clustered in three divergent clades, an indo-pacific, a pacific and a Chagossian clade. The mitochondrial region analysed was very uniform across the Indo-Pacific, including the Red Sea, Indian Ocean, Western Pacific, Micronesia) and only differed by one single base pair, if at all. The population in the Ogasawara Islands is very isolated and genetically highly diverged. Demographic modeling suggested several millions years of divergence with very little amounts of gene flow between the population in the Ryukyu Islands, Ogasawara and the Daito Islands.
