Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research studied and analyzed documentation by women and their documentation activities and has revealed that: 1) these documentation has visiblized women’s experiences in disaster and highlighted societal challenges behind individual experiences; 2) sharing and expressing individual experiences and thoughts through documentation activities lead to women’s empowerment; and 3) information function that gender equality centers have promotes disaster responses based on voluntary documentation activities by women. Thus, it is proven that documentation activities have potentials towards creation of new societies.
Furthermore, this research suggests that the methods of expression used to document women’s experiences that are hard to be verbalized or described can be ‘resources of discourse’ for women who have found it hard to raise her ‘voice’ in a public sphere.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
