Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This year I was able to do background research in two different locations, Canada and the United States. In Honolulu I was able to collect background information on strategies to attract and retain international students for example programs that are most popular with international students and services that are mostly used by them. I was also able to interview some participant international students at several educational institutions. I also was able to gain an understanding of the relationship between international students and host students and to what extend the two are able to and encouraged to mingle. Very unique to this location I was able to start preliminary research on indigenous studies in higher education. In Canada I was able to do desk research in the public library regarding multicultural policies in Canada and the employment and integration of immigrants into the economy. I collected information on student mobility and their source countries Also, I was able to access some documents related to international education policies, and institutional support for international students beyond the host institution.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Even though I have not been able to go to Australia this year so I did research about the Australian context from abroad. I was also able to do research in the United Kingdom so that has helped broaden my perspective.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I plan to visit Canada and Australia to collect further data in order to map the historical and political underpinnings of these international destination countries. I aim to begin to create a framework to understand the specificities of the successes in retention of highly skilled migrants through analysing national strategies for managing student mobility and retention. This year I plan to disseminate some preliminary findings in a domestic conference.

Causes of Carryover |
I need to purchase a portable computer for field work along with other equipment including software; camera and recording equipment. I also will purchase research materials: specialized books and videos. I also plan to do field research trips to Canada and Australia.
